Volunteer Opportunity: Board of Directors Member
The Ontario Para Network is looking to recruit an individual with expertise in the area of corporate sponsorship for a Director-at-Large position on our Board of Directors. Desired competencies include sport system knowledge and revenue generation expertise. Knowledge of adaptive sports is not required.

Organization: The Ontario Para Network (ONPARA) is the provincial governing body for three (3) wheelchair sports throughout the province of Ontario: Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Tennis as well as providing programming for Wheelchair Athletics.
We provide support and a variety of programs and services to our athletes and clubs in order to encourage athletes with a disability to get active, have fun, and challenge themselves through the power of sport.
- We connect people looking for local wheelchair athletics, basketball, rugby, or tennis club/programs.
- Our Bridging the Gap program provides opportunities to for “Have-A-Go” sessions and other introductory wheelchair sports sessions to try out our sports first-hand.
- We provide awareness of wheelchair sports through our Schools Program, in partnership with Wheelchair Basketball Canada.
- We provide opportunities to compete at tournaments, meets, and events at the local, provincial, and national level.
- We provide sport wheelchairs through the ONPARA Wheelchair Loans program.
- Our Enabling Change program teaches the importance of accessibility and inclusion in the classroom or the workplace through participation.
- We provide our wheelchair athletes with funding opportunities through provincial programs, bursaries and grants.
The Board of Directors and staff have developed a Strategic Plan (2020-2023); a three-year roadmap to grow adaptive sports across Ontario. This plan charts our key deliverables over the next three years and identifies the key performance indicators that will keep us focused and accountable.

Collaborative – stronger together
The Board of Directors is responsible for the development of the organizations Strategic Plan, development and oversight of the organization’s Policies & Procedures, budget development and oversight, and revenue generation.
Depending on the activities of the organization, Board members may be asked from time to time to lead activities or sit on or Chair committees to support the work of the organization.
ONPARA Board of Directors are required to be a member of the organization – https://owsa.ca/product/onpara-membership/ Membership is $25 annually.
Term of Office:
The term of office for the Directors shall typically be 2 years. Terms will be staggered ensuring not all positions expire at the same time. Board members may only serve 3 terms in the same position. The Board of Directors are expected to attend 4 to 6 Board meetings per year in addition to the Annual General Meeting.
New Board members will be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the organization (November 19-19). A Nomination Form is required to be completed and submitted prior to the AGM.
