Wheelchair Basketball Provincial Teams

Ontario wheelchair basketball athletes have the opportunity to play competitively while representing the province at various national events every season. Both our Junior and Women’s provincial programs are led by qualified, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable head coaches and assistant coaches tasked with overseeing athlete development and program growth.

The Ontario Junior Provincial Program operates on a four-year competition cycle leading up to the Canada Winter Games in the final year of the quadrennial.

Years 1 & 2 – Junior East & West Regional Championships
Year 3 – Junior National Championships
Year 4 – Canada Winter Games

The next Canada Winter Games will be held in Prince Edward Island in 2023. In order to be eligible for the 2023 Canada Games, Junior athletes must be born in or after 1999. The team is open to athletes of all genders, both with and without physical disabilities.

Each year, athletes will have the opportunity to try out for the Junior Provincial Team in order to represent Ontario at the season’s regional/national championships. Tryout details & selection criteria will be communicated to club coaches and athletes prior to camps.

Identification/Selection Camps 2019:

Camp #1 – September 27 & 28, 2019
Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, 875 Morningside Avenue, Toronto

Camp #2 – Sunday October 20, 2019

Athletes must attend at least ONE identification/selection camp in order to be considered, though they are highly encouraged to attend both camps if possible.

Following the two identification/selection camps, a pool of athletes will be selected and will train monthly from November – February. A final selection will take place during those months and the top 10 athletes will go on to represent Ontario at the 2020 Junior East Regional Championship in New Brunswick in March, 2020.

The Ontario Women’s Provincial Program brings together girls and women from across the province with the intent of fostering competition, development, leadership, and camaraderie among female wheelchair basketball players.

The Team Ontario Senior Women aim to compete every year in the CWBL Women’s National Championship against other women’s club teams and provincial teams from across Canada. The Development Women’s team participates in the Défi Sportif, an annual multi-sport tournament held in Québec, as an opportunity to further their development and help strengthen the next generation of Ontario wheelchair basketball players.

Each year, athletes will have the opportunity to try out for the Senior and Development Women’s Teams. Tryout details & selection criteria will be communicated to athletes prior to camps.
